4. Will I be happy living on Saipan?
A. A man was traveling from one city to another city when he met an old lady sitting beside the road. Wanting to know about the people in the town he was traveling to, he stopped and asked the old lady, "What are the people like in the next town?"
She looked at him and asked, "How were the people like in the town that you came from?"
The traveler answered "Oh, they were wonderful, kind, courteous and friendly!"
The old lady said "They are the same in the next town."
The next day another man was traveling to the same city when he met the old lady sitting beside the road. Also wanting to know about the people in the town he was traveling to, he stopped and asked the old lady, "What are the people like in the next town?"
She looked at him and asked, "How were the people like in the town that you came from?"
"Oh, they were terrible, the meanest, most unfriendly people that you would ever meet."
The old lady looked at him and said "They are the same in the next town."
I'll let you figure it out.
5. I'm single, how's the dating scene on the island?
A. I'm married, I don't know. But I would assume if there was the
possibility of obtaining "Green Card" you could get lots of dates.
6. I'm a surfer, can you give me details about surfing on Saipan?
A. I see surf boards for sale in some of the shops, but I have no idea where anyone would go surfing on this island. Wind surfing is very popular here and the only surfing that i ever see people doing.
7. How are non-tourist Americans treated?
A. See question #4 above.
8. My husband ran away and left me with five kids, can you find him? This goes along with the "I'm looking for my boyfriend/girlfriend" and the "I'm looking for my long lost pal" questions.
A. Nope, sorry I just don't have enough time to locate all the missing people living here on Saipan.
9. What are housing prices like? or What's the cost of living?
A. It's very expensive to live here. Need I say more.
10. In an address for Saipan, what do the letters "MP" stand for?
A. It stands for "Marianas Province" according to the Post Office, but we like to say it stands for "Middle of the Pacific".
11. There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on whether it is a good or bad place to live. If you could sum up the pros and cons, I would be grateful.
A. My answer to this question depends on the kind of day that I have had. If it's been a good day I will tell you what an incredibly wonderful place this is, however if it's been a rotten day, and I have a few of those, I will give you all the dirt that I can dig up. Acutally you should look at the answer to question #4 to find your answer.
These are just a few of the questions that I get asked. As I think of more I will add them to the list.
