The Saipan Hash House Harriers (SH3) run on the island of Saipan, the largest island and capital of the
Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). The CNMI is a United States Commonwealth situated
in the Western Pacific geographic area known as Micronesia.
A hash run is similar to the game
of hares and hounds. A trail is set through the boonies by a Hare. After a ten minute head start, the
pack, or hounds follow the trail in an attempt to catch the Hare before the Hare reaches the ending point
of the trail.
SH3 runs are held every Saturday. Meet at 4:00 p.m. (3:30 p.m. during the winter)
at the parking lot of the Garapan Branch of the Bank of Guam. The cost of the run is $6.00 (US) which
includes drinks and snacks.
The starting point and time for each Full Moon run is announced
at the Saturday Run immediately preceding the full moon and on the Saipan Hash mailing list.
Major
runs include the Lingerie Run in February; St. Patty's Day Run; Halloween Run; the Anniversary Run on
the Saturday closest to 12/15; and the Christmas Gift Exchange Run.
SH3 was founded on December
15, 1984 by members of the Hagåtña Hash House Harriers (HIV Hash) (Hagåtña, formerly known as Agana,
is the capital of Guam, the Southern most island of the Marianas chain).
